(Student brief)
For this brief, I was tasked with creating an editorial illustration to accompany an existing article by Monica Dux for The Age, 2022.
I started mapping out keywords from the article.
I then drew some thumbnails to visualise my thoughts and other ideas that came to me from the narrative.
I did some ink tests on paper to explore texture and style.
Once I decided on a motif, I started drawing some iterations. I began with a pencil iteration. I then moved on to ink and wash, which proved somewhat challenging.
I experimented with different textures, shades of black, and the amount of water and “splatter” used for the motif.
After settling on the iteration I liked best, I cleaned it up in PS before adding it to the article template.
