Eye, the international review of graphic design, is a quarterly printed magazine about graphic design and visual culture. Published in London, its 101st edition was released earlier this year. For this project, the magazine has provided native InDesign files of a 16-page feature article from a recent publication. The task for this assignment is to make a study of Eye’s editorial design and then redesign the existing 16-page design into a 10-page design.
Through in-depth research into Eye Magazine’s editorial style and visual identity, combined with a study of Argentine graphic designer Mario Eskenazi’s distinctive approach—marked by bold yet nuanced design—I designed the interior spreads to harmonise the publication’s structure with Eskenazi’s refined aesthetic. I incorporated a 12-column grid system, experimenting with its layout, colour, composition, and size.
By drawing on designers such as Josef Müller-Brockmann, Bruno Munari, Jacqueline Casey, Paula Scher, and many more, I was able to better situate the direction I wanted to take for this particular task.
