Title: Garland Magazine
(Internship)
Garland Magazine is a not-for-profit creative online publication. During my internship as a Content Creation Designer, I was tasked with developing new ideas and concepts for Garland’s visual identity to boost audience engagement and interaction across their diverse SM platforms. These included:

An animation for a published piece by Palestinian researcher and author, Wafa Ghnaim.

Posters and animation for a symposium hosted at RMIT University.

Animations promoting the book ‘Snake Talk’ by Megan Kelleher and Tyson Yunkaporta, for the online launch.
New ideas and designs for the Garland newsletter.

At the end of my internship, I proactively developed a comprehensive set of brand guidelines.

The Brief:

The objective was to translate Garland’s core values: authenticity, slow media, and cultural custodianship, into a refreshed visual identity that honours its culturally diverse readership.
The Concept:

Garland’s mission is to amplify the voices, stories, and processes behind global craft-making. I designed a visual system that reflects the balance between the magazine's academic rigour and the imperfect nature of the handmade objects they feature. The aesthetic is intentionally minimalist and typography-focused, allowing the interface to recede so the stories can take centre stage.
Colour & Region:

While Garland has a global audience, its editorial focus is deeply rooted in the Indo-Pacific region. To reflect this, I built a vibrant, triadic colour palette, featuring Marigold, Spring Bud, and Electric Lavender, inspired by the region's rich floral environments. This vibrant system is grounded by a "Warm Paper" background and with its primary text set in “Deep Loam”, specifically chosen to reduce eye strain and encourage the "slow media" long-form reading experience that Garland values.
