The Brief:

Create and print a 16-page A5 comic zine + front and back covers. The comic should be based on a source from another medium (screenplay, short story, poetry, music, theatre), which you will adapt into sequential art. The comic can be colour, grayscale or black and white. You can use any art-making materials you like to make the comic: hand-drawing, digital, collage, mixed media, etc.

The Outcome:

This comic is based on the song "Party of Special Things to Do" by 'Captain Beefheart' (Don van Vliet), which I adapted into sequential art. The finished comic demonstrates an engagement with the course throughout the semester and learned from the various methods, styles, processes and visual vocabularies we have studied in class. The comic is hand-drawn, scanned, and coloured-in digitally in full colour with a chosen and selective palette. I aimed to illustrate the comic to match the "wackiness" of the song by making it look more dream-like.
