The Brief:

Design an 'artist book' that explores the theme being here. Develop a narrative/questions/conceptual basis/enquiry for your artist book. Create artworks, design elements and/or writings that respond to place as it pertains to you. Use the tools and frameworks of the 'artist book' and the concepts in our studio to create a book of inquiry and exploration around the theme of 'being here'.

The Outcome:

For this brief, I created an artist book that considers my idea of place, belonging, and identity –– exploring both my home and host countries: Sweden, Iran, and Australia. The book contains digitally painted self-portraits, poems by Rumi, and illustrations of Swedish, Persian, and Australian native flowers. These interweaving cultural identities are collected into one creative place – a place of being here.
